Texas Inmate Population is a private reference site, not a government office. We cannot confirm custody status, release a person, post bond, change a court date, schedule a visit, or obtain an official booking record for you. For urgent matters, contact the responsible public agency directly.

Texas custody records are split by agency and custody type. A recent county booking usually belongs with the sheriff or county jail roster for the county that made or holds the arrest. A sentenced state prisoner belongs in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice system. Federal custody, immigration detention, victim notifications, and court cases use different official tools.
- For someone in a county jail, start with the County Directory, then use the local roster and inmate records route for that county.
- For booking photos, use the county roster path described in jail rosters and mugshots.
- For charges filed after an arrest, search court information through re:SearchTX or the correct county clerk, then review court records after an arrest.
- For a specific jail, prison, federal site, or ICE facility, use the Facility Directory.
- For a sentenced state prisoner, use the TDCJ inmate search or the TDCJ inmate information page. TDCJ also provides a Public Information Act route through its public-information request form.
- For a federal prisoner, use the BOP inmate locator. For immigration detention, use ICE ODLS. For custody and court-event notifications in participating Texas counties, use Texas IVSS-Counties.
